Friday night saw the first Grand Prix, The Hughson Shield, take place in the Whitedale Snooker club with 49 players entering on the night to try and earn points towards Intercounty qualification.

The early rounds were played over the best of 5 legs and produced some close games, leading up to the quarter final stage.

The quarter finals were played over the best of seven legs and saw Bar Fines player Craig Main beat Whalsay’s John Philip Sandison 4-2, Bar Stewards’ Tommy Williamson defeat Bar Fines’ Bobby Cumming 4-2, Belting Boating Club’s Scott Williamson defeat Hamnavoe’s Willum Gray 4-0 and Posties’ player Philip Mowat beat fellow player Stuart Paul, 4-1.

The semi finals were played over the best of 9 legs and saw Tommy bt Craig 5-2 to progress through to the final, while the second semi final saw Philip Mowat emerge a 5-3 winner over Scott Williamson.

The best of 11 leg finals saw consistent scoring and steady finishing saw Tommy emerge a 6-1 winner to claim the Hughson brothers shield and maximum ranking points.

Throughout the competition there were 180’s from: Kieran Fraser, Kevin Llewellyn, Philip Mowat (5), Scott Williamson (2), Ramsay Hogg, Stuart Paul, Andrew Simpson & Neal Redfern.

The highest checkout prize which was donated by the Whitedale snooker Club went to Scott Williamson who a finished 152 and also recorded a 115 finish during the night. Other high checkouts were recorded from Philip Mowat, 112, 105, 100, Ramsay Hogg 121, Craig Main 106, John Philip Sandison 102.
