Friday 11th December saw another excellent turnout of 66 players (33pairs) enter the Shetland Open Doubles which was held in the Lerwick Legion. After a ½ hour delay due to the fire alarm going off and the Legion being evacuated, the fist rounds commenced and saw some close and competitive games. Reaching the quarter final stages were James Ramsey & Arnold Brown who bt Lee Taylor & David Thomson 4-0, Alan & Brian Patterson bt Maurice Clark & Gordon Irvine 4-2, Jim Wood & Neal Redfern bt Andrew Burgess &George Smith 4-0, the final quarter final saw Ian Blance & Steven Struthers edge past Tommy Watt & Bruce Johnson 4-3. The first Semi-final saw Jim and Neal Bt Ian & Steven 5-0, the second semi-final saw a closer game with Alan and Brian winning through to the final Beating Arnold and James 5-3. The final was a close affair with both pairings throwing a good standard of darts the first 6 legs were shared at 3 -3, Jim and Neal then took the next two to take a 5-3 lead before Alan and Brian pulled a leg back to make it 5-4 but it was Jim and Neal who took the next leg to run out 6-4 winners to claim the Shetland open Doubles title.

On the night a total of 10 180s’ were hit with Neal Redfern hitting 4, George Smith and Alan Paterson hitting 2 each and others from George MacKay and Danny Irvine.

The highest checkout was hit by Eddie Sinclair with a 115 finish othe high checkouts came from Ian Blance with a 105 and Neal Redfern with a 110.
