Neal is 1st winner of newly formed Double Start competition.

Saturday saw 17 players compete in the SDA double start singles competition in the Lerwick Legion. The 1st round saw players compete on 4 round robin boards with the top 2 players from each board progressing to the quarter finals.

The quarter finals saw Stuart Paul beat David Thomson 3-0, Gareth MacRitchie beat Gary Devaney 3-0, Barry Couper beat Hazel Bruce 3-0 and Neal Redfern defeat Gareth Pottinger 3-0.

The semi finals were played over the best of 5legs and both saw 3-0 victories for Stuart Paul over Barry Couper and for Neal Redfern against Gareth MacRitchie.

The best of 7 leg final was played to a high standard with the first 4 legs being shared by the 2 players with neither player being able to break their opponents throw. Neal then took a 3-2 lead in the 5th leg hitting a timely 180(his 2nd of the final) then checking out in his next throw before going to claim victory in then next to emerge a 4-2 winner.

During the nights play there were 180s recorded from Neal Redfern (3), Stuart Paul (2), Barry Couper (2) & Gary Devaney. Gary also checked out 109.
