Friday night saw the 2nd Grand Prix ‘Charlie Zoom Memorial’ sponsored by Winmau take place in The Lerwick Legion which for the second week running saw an excellent turnout of 62 Players enter. After some quality games in the early rounds in which t saw an early exit for last weeks Grand Prix winner, The competition came down to the quarter finals. The 1st two quarter finals saw Alan Patterson beat Raymond Laurenson 3-0, Roger Irvine beat Craig Main 3-0. The next two quarter finals were much closer affairs and saw Neal Redfern edge past Arnold Brown 3-2 and Philip Mouat beat Maurice Clark by the same score. The Semi finals played over the best of 7 legs saw Alan Patterson defeat Roger Irvine 4-0 and Philip Mowat beat Neal Redfern 4-1. The final saw a good standard of darts played by both players but it was Philip who emerged the winner beating Alan 5-0 to claim the Charlie ‘Zoom’ Shield . Both finalists were also presented with signed darts and a dartboard which were donated by new sponsors Winmau.
The Ladies completion saw a good turout of 9 players play a round robin format over 2 boards with the top 2 from each group progressing to the Semi Finals. The 1st semi final saw Sandra MacRitchie beat Michelle Hunter 3-1 and the 2nd semi saw Zara MacRitchie edge past Melanie Couper 3-2. In a close final it was Zara who emerged as the winner beating Sandra 4-3.
On the night a total of nineteen 180’s hit were hit with Roger Irvine hitting 3 and a total of 16 ton plus finishes were recorded with Philip Mouat taking the highest with a 155 ahead of Andrew Burgess with a 145.
