Saturday night saw the 2nd Grand Prix of the season, the newly sponsored JDC Shield take place in the Scalloway Legion which saw 39 players looking to gain qualification points for the 2023 Intercounty. The early rounds were played over the best of 5 legs and produced some close games, leading up to quarter finals.

The quarter finals were played over the best of 7 legs and saw Craig smith beat Andrew Simpson 4-1, John Robert Scott defeated Shaun Mackenzie 4-0, Ramsay Hogg beat Scott Williamson 4-1 and Liam Sutherland defeated Neal Redfern in a last leg decider 4-3.

The two semi-finals were played over the best of 5 legs which saw a high standard of scoring in both. The first semi final saw Craig Smith emerge a 5-1 winner over John Robert Scott in a game which was closer than the score line suggests, with Craig hitting a 180 along the way and John Robert winning his leg in 15 darts (140,140,140, 81 checkout). The second semi-final between Liam Sutherland and Ramsay Hogg saw another high scoring affair go to a last leg decider with Liam emerging a 5-4 winner to progress through to the final. This semi final saw both players hit two 180’s a piece while Liam won his 5 legs in 13,15,17, 18, 16 darts, with Ramsay winning his 4 legs in an equally impressive 15, 14 19, 14 along with a 116 checkout.

The Final between Craig and Liam was played over the 11 legs and saw Liam edge into a 2-leg lead before Craig levelled the match at 2-2. Liam once again opened a 2-leg lead and was able to extend this further to claim a 6-2 victory to claim the JDC Shield and maximum qualification points.

During the nights play 180’s were recorded from Roger Irvine (2), John Robert Scott, Ramsay Hogg (4) Anthony Shearer, Shaun MacKenzie, Liam Sutherland (4), Neal Redfern and Craig Smith.

High checkouts were recorded from James McNab 145, Ian Hannah 107, Rory Henderson 110, Anthony Shearer 100, Craig Smith 116, 100 and Ramsay Hogg 120,117,116.
