Shetland Single runner up Arnold Brown, Allied Taxis' representative John Gold, Shetland singles winner Gareth MacRitchie
Last Friday night saw the SDA Shetland Open Singles sponsored by Allied Taxis take place in the Lerwick Legion with 53 men entering to see who would be crowned 2016/17 Shetland Singles Champion. After some very close games which were of a high standard in the early rounds which also saw last year’s winner being knocked out, the quarter finals saw Arnold Brown beat Stuart Paul 4-3 and Barry Couper beat Frank Watt 4-3 in two in two very close games. The 3rd quarter final saw Craig Main bt John Robert Scott whilst the last Quarterfinal saw Gareth MacRitchie edge past Ramsay Hogg in a close 4-3 match.
The semi finals were played over the best of 9 legs and saw Arnold Brown Brown reach the final after beat Barry Couper 5-1 the second semi final saw Gareth MacRitchie beat Craig Main also 5-1.
The final was played over the best of 11 legs and saw the first two legs go with throw before Gareth took the 3rd and 4th to take a 3-1 lead before Arnold levelled the match at 3-3. The following 2 legs were once again shared to make the score 4-4 with Arnold hitting a 124 checkout and two 180s along the way. Gareth then took the next leg to take a 5-4 lead before Arnold stepped in to force a deciding leg hitting a third 180 of the final. The Final leg saw Gareth reach the double first to claim a 6-5 victory to claim the Shetland Singles Title after a very close final.
