Yesterday saw 37 players enter the final Grand Prix of the SDA season take place in the Whalsay Boating Club.

Following the early rounds the quarter finals saw Stuart Paul beat Craig Main 4-3, John Philip Sandison beat Liam Sutherland 4-1, Kieran Fraser bt Richard Watt 4-1 and Roger Irvine beat Matt Fraser 4-2.

The best of 9 leg semi finals saw Stuart Paul defeat John Philip Sandison 5-1 and Roger Irvine beat Kieran Fraser 5-3.

The Final was played over the best of 11 legs and saw Stuart take the opening leg hitting a 180, before Roger went on to claim the next 6 legs without reply to claim the Whalsay Boating Club Shield with a 6-1 victory.

Yesterday also saw 6 Women compete for the Ladies Shield, following a round robin competition Zara MacRitchie Finished on top the table to claim the Ladies Whalsay B.C Shield.

During Yesterdays play 180’s were recorded from Maurice Clark, Richie Eunson, Matt Fraser, Frank Watt, Stuart Paul, Arnold Brown, Craig Smith, Craig Main and John Philip Sandison

High checkouts were recorded from Liam Sutherland 104, John Philip Sandison 117,108 and Stuart Paul 103,102.

Following the completion of the final Grand Prix of the Season the 8 players automatically qualifying for the 2023 Men’s Intercounty Team are: Liam Sutherland (Delting Boating Club) 43 Pts, Stuart Paul (Posties) 36 Pts, Craig Main (Bar Fines) 29 Pts, Ramsay Hogg (Bar Fines) 28 Pts, Scott Williamson (Delting Boating Club) 27 Pts, Roger Irvine (Whalsay) 27 Pts, Tommy Williamson (Bar Stewards) 25 Pts, Philip Mowat (Posties) 24 Pts.
