Shetland Darts Association are the largest darts association within Shetland after being set up first in early 1900’s to promote the sport of darts in the Isles.

Run by an elected committee at an AGM, the association continues with the main aims of promoting and encouraging the sport of darts through the running of darts competitions within Shetland along with other associations in Orkney and on the mainland.

The Association sees teams from local pubs, clubs and halls spread all over Shetland. Lerwick, Scalloway, Burra, Sandwick, Whiteness, Brae, Hillswick, Mossbank, and the island of Whalsay compete against each other in a 3 league structure on Friday nights from the months of September to April.

Teams of 6 play matches comprising of 3 Doubles 501, 6 Singles 501 start and a single leg team game (beery leg) of 1001, against teams in their respective division with each team having their own objectives either to be crowned champions, gain promotion or to avoid relegation but mainly to ENJOY, Socialise, make new friends and play DARTS.

Along with the league, SDA run and support others with the running other various competitions of all formats throughout the year in various locations over Shetland with these often raising funds for charity organisations.

SDA run a series of competitions called Grand Prixs throughout the season where all association members compete against each other to gain points which are collected on their progression through each competition. Once the final Grand Prix has being played, the 8 players with the most points automatically qualify to represent Shetland along with 4 wildcard picks selected by the Intercounty Team Captain in the annual Inter-county match against rivals Orkney which is held at the end of April.

SDA and the committee welcomes any new members to our competitions and are always looking to establish links with other associations. We welcome all contact and our contact details can be found on the contact page.
